Anatoly Serdiukov: Russia to Supply Armament and Ammunitions to Tajikistan

According to Defense Minister of the Russian Federation Anatoly Serdiukov, following the talks of Heads of Russia and Tajikistan, there are no complications with the Russian base in Tajikistan; now a possibility to pay for it after 2014 only is being discussed.

“There are currently no complications, to our opinion, with the base’s existence and staying,” Russia's Defense Minister noted.

At the same time Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation informed that the question about reimbursable use of the base before the expiry of the term of the present agreement has not been discussed.

“We have considered two questions – either continuation of the base in the same mode as it is now, or on a paid basis. It is too early to talk of figures. We do not yet understand, how to count them,” said Serdiukov. Aside from that, Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation said that Russia and Tajikistan are discussing a possibility to supply armament and ammunitions to the republic.

“A sufficiently large cooperation is being carried out within military technical assistance. We are preparing a big project for supplying armament and ammunitions,” said Serdiukov.
