175 Russian Athletes to Go to the Olympics in Vancouver

The Executive Committee of the Russian Olympic Committee said that the Russian expanded National Team, which will participate in the Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, comprises 175 athletes. The final list of athletes will be approved on February 1.

“Compared to the previous Winter Games in Turin, where 178 people participated, there has been no significant change in strength. But compared with Turin the international principle of selection of athletes for the Olympics have been tightened. It is worth noting that this is not yet a final list, because it includes the participants who has not yet gained admission to Vancouver, but who still have a chance to do it,” said the head of the Russian delegation to the Vancouver Olympic Games Vladimir Vasin.

At the Olympic Games 15 kinds of sport will be presented, it is worth noting that the Russian National Team will compete for medals in all of them. At the last Winter Olympics in Turin, Russia's athletes won 22 medals, of which 8 were gold. As a result, the Russian National Team took the fourth place.

The Olympic Games in Vancouver will be held from 12 to 28 February.
