Biden\'s State of the Union Address is about his own precious self
The goal was to demonstrate fitness for presidency
US President Joe Biden has addressed members of US Congress with his traditional annual State of the Union. He surely sought to appear as a visionist and deep analyst seeing the world from geopolitical heights as a balanced whole. “To lead America, the land of possibilities, you need a vision for the future and what can and should be done,” Biden said. And repeated “I see the future” several times after that.
He deems himself the one to apprehend the “gravest threats” of our time. Those are ex-President Trump (whom Biden never mentioned by name during his speech) and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. "What makes our moment rare is that freedom and democracy are under attack at — both at home and overseas at the very same time," Biden said, jumping sharply from the war in Ukraine to the Capitol assault in January 2021. Which should have made his listeners believe that Donald Trump, his key rival in the upcoming presidential election, and Russian President Vladimir Putin are allies, and the former is therefore allegedly dangerous to the United States. Simultaneously, Biden called for confronting Putin and funding Ukraine. "Ukraine can stop Putin if we stand with Ukraine and provide the weapons that it needs to defend itself," he stressed.
Biden has touched upon a number of domestic and foreign policy issues from the war in Ukraine to the migrant crisis on the US southern border to the Middle East to successes in jobs, infrastructure, investment in rural areas. Meanwhile, American mainstream observers themselves note that Biden’s central task in Congress was to “to prove to the millions of Americans who tuned in that he has the physical and mental strength to lead the nation, now, and for the next four years."
How did he grapple with this? “Biden, 81, forceful, combative, sharp and at times funny, delivered,” a Bloomberg political observer writes. “This Biden was nothing like the low-energy caricature who Republicans are desperate to run against… Democrats wanted to see Joe the fighter at the podium. They got that president. At least for one very public night,” the agency points out with obvious irony. Still, it didn't escape TV cameras that some Republicans incidentally sneered at Biden’s words, and several people even left the room during their president’s speech.
In other words, America and the whole world watched a show from Congress, whose lead character Biden did a generally good job if seeking to show he was still capable. And yet, no one reported on how he felt behind the scenes after leaving the podium. But that’s a minor point. The only thing that mattered was to appear as a “powerful old man” and a “giant of thought” during the show. Not counted that Biden has been publicly greeting invisible people for four years of his presidency and cannot say a word without paper notices at hand.
Biden's speech was clear evidence that the American "deep state" has an empty subs' bench and that there is no one who could realistically challenge former President Trump in the presidential race. For this reason, his speech featured praise for Vice President Kamala Harris, who is running along with him. But even the mainstream US media write that over their four-year-term Harris has shown herself utterly worthless, dumb and a travesty of herself.
A single energetic and fluent speech before Congress (with an ever-present teleprompter) cannot solve the fundamental problems facing both Biden himself and those pushing him back into the White House for the next four years. With his 38% approval rating, Biden is a truly unpopular leader. Even half of the Democrats think he should not seek reelection. But if they mean Biden’s age alone, most part of “one-storied America” and those intending to vote for Trump oppose the liberal establishment’s social engineering policy, the essence of which is to impose the so-called “gender equality” and other exaggerated values on society, primarily the younger generation of Americans. By and large, the problem is the watershed between the liberal establishment, whose political superstructure is the Democratic Party and Biden himself, and Trump voters who think in terms of traditional values.
Trump called Biden's speech "disgraceful," and journalist Tucker Carlson dubbed it “dark” and “un-American.” He referred to Biden as a "cruel and vicious demagogue," with his statements about Ukraine’s ability to stop Putin being mere “crazy talk.” Further comment is superfluous.
