Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called honoring a Ukrainian Nazi in the Canadian parliament "a terrible mistake and a violation of the memory of those who suffered grievously at the hands of the Nazi regime", trying to present his clumsy apologies. Moreover, the latter were primarily addressed to Zelensky, who did not ask for that. Trudeau also apologized to the Jews and the pervert community with an infinitely long abbreviation, as a tribute to this commonplace Western "fashion". And he naturally snatched an opportunity to accuse Russia of "politicizing" the incident.
Trudeau's apology has been a monstrous hypocrisy. Canada’s opposition Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre said the PM "personally met with and honored" a veteran who fought for the Nazis during World War II. The Prime Minister's personal protocol service in charge of organizing and vetting all the guests and programming for state visits of this kind could not have been unaware about Hunka’s background, Poilievre noted.
But that isn't the primary issue.
The WSWS international portal devoted one of its recent articles to "Ottawa's decades-long alliance with the Ukrainian far-right," which is "an important factor propelling Canadian imperialism’s outsized role in the US-NATO war on Russia." WSWS-provided evidence and calculations give a clear insight into Canada's literally outstanding role in turning Ukraine into an "Anti-Russia" project by means of Ukrainian Nazi descendants.
After Nazi Germany was defeated, Canada granted asylum to tens of thousands of OUN members and supporters (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, banned in Russia). WSWS has revealed that members of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, banned in the Russia), created by OUN effort in 1943, "were welcomed to Canada with open arms, despite the UPA’s role in the murder of tens of thousands of Jews and Poles." The same with soldiers of the Waffen SS 14th Grenadier Division, also known as Galicia. "No matter that the Nuremberg trials had found the Waffen SS to be a criminal organization as a whole, due to its role as an armed wing of the Nazi Party and routine perpetration of mass murder and other war crimes," the portal writes.
Since then, Canada has been using Ukrainian immigrants’ forces to promote its foreign and domestic policy interests. In turn, those forces have gained major political clout in the country. "With state support, far-right Ukrainian nationalists came to politically dominate Canada’s substantial Ukrainian immigrant community, hitherto largely identified with socialist and left-wing politics. They served as a bulwark of Canada’s Cold War foreign policy, stoking virulent hostility to the Soviet Union," WSWS emphasizes.
Talking about “a terrible mistake and a violation of the memory of those who suffered grievously at the hands of the Nazi regime”, Trudeau is silent about the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC). The organization is sort of a "keeper of the OUN-UPA flame", and “has long served as the nexus of the collaboration between the Canadian state and far-right Ukrainian nationalists.” Its own website claims to have been “a state-sponsored organization from its very beginnings.”
“UCC leaders enjoy ready access to the highest levels of government and leading UCC members frequently accompany prime ministers and other senior government officials on their visits to Ukraine”, WSWS writes. Let me remind you in this regard that Canada’s Vice PM is notorious ethnic Ukrainian Chrystia Freeland, whose maternal grandfather Mikhail Chomiak served under the Nazis in Poland’s Krakow. He was an affluent and well-paid Nazi collaborator. “For five years, from early 1940 through the first months of 1945, he edited the sole Ukrainian-language newspaper in Nazi-occupied Poland.” On its pages, he praised Adolf Hitler, glorified the "invincible" German army, incited hatred for Jews and promoted Galicia formation.
"The alliance between Canadian imperialism and Ukrainian fascism is most strikingly embodied in the person of Chrystia Freeland, Canada’s deputy prime minister, finance minister and chief architect of its “feminist” foreign policy. Freeland has been among the keenest advocates in Western imperialist governments of all-out economic war against Russia, and has led the push within the Trudeau Liberal government for Ukraine to be supplied with heavy weaponry," WSWS goes on to say.
Discussing the obvious hypocrisy and deceit of Prime Minister Trudeau and Canada’s entire political elite is tantamount to proving an axiom. Canada has nurtured, paid for and raised a new generation of Ukrainian Nazis, who seem to have surpassed their grandfathers and great-grandfathers in rampant nationalism and shocking anti-Russian sentiment. In Canada, state power has grown together with Ukrainian nationalism, making Ottawa play a key role in today’s spread of Russophobia around the world and exert decisive influence on the collective West’s war against Russia.
