The world has spun off its axis. Or rather, it has been turned on its head by those in the West who believe they are leading the way as regards the entire human history. June 6 will feature the start of celebrations to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Allied landings in Normandy — with Russia not invited, mind you. And utterly illegitimate Zelensky, who has long lost ground, is going to be there and, as announced, may even meet with Biden.
The historical event’s anniversary associated with WWII second front opening seems yet another excuse for Zelensky to arrange one of his foreign “gigs.”
Today, Zelensky has a finger in every pie, being the groom at every wedding and the dead guy at every funeral. The other day, he returned from a voyage to Singapore, which hosted the annual Shangri-La Dialogue security forum, sort of the Asian-style Munich Conference. The venue was attended by defense ministers, intel chiefs, diplomats, politicians and pundits from countries all across Asia and Europe. Zelensky appeared there all of a sudden, like a jack-in-the-box, and this surprise proved not really pleasant to quite a number of delegates, by the way. Zelensky arrived there hopeful of persuading the Asian nations to attend the already disastrous and therefore ridiculous “global summit” on Ukraine due in Switzerland later this month. The outcome of his endeavors was preordained. Countries of the Indo-Pacific region informed Zelensky of their reluctance to intervene in the Ukrainian conflict, especially on Kiev’s side. It sounded like a smart stroke on the cheek with a worldwide echo.
Going by foreign media reports, the anniversary events in Normandy look like an upcoming “US-Ukraine summit.” News agencies tout statements by White House strategic communications coordinator John Kirby that the United States administration deems a Biden-Zelensky conversation in France possible, despite the fact that the latter’s term as president of Ukraine expired back on 21 May.
"In the past, certainly it’s not uncommon when President Zelenskyy and President Biden are in the same city or town for whatever the purpose is, that it’s not uncommon for them to find time to meet and to discuss issues in Ukraine with one another," Kirby said, generating an intrigue in response to a question about whether Biden and Zelensky could meet on the sidelines of Normandy celebrations.
But the subtext of media reports has provided an understanding of the centerpiece for Zelensky’s visit here. It appears as yet another attempt to save same old sunken ship of the “global summit” in Switzerland set for mid-June, which all the Global South leaders have refused to attend. It was them whom the Swiss event’s driving force — the United States — was counting on, while now already distancing itself from this idea and pretending that the one in charge and behind the stillborn initiative is Zelensky himself. The latter, driven into a corner by prospects of global shame looming over him due to the upcoming “empty shell” in Switzerland, has been rushing across the planet in quest of support. But was only caught with sounding boxes on the ear. In Normandy, the sponsors are going to pat him on the back again, pledging “moral and military support” in exchange for the lives of Ukrainian soldiers.
The issue of Ukraine has come out in other announcements as well. On June 8, two days after the central ceremony scheduled for June 6, French President Macron will meet with Biden, the Elysée Palace stated. And naturally, one of their key topics for their discussion topics would be support for Ukraine.
Apart from Zelensky’s “benefit performance,” there is another important point in what is going on in Normandy. As mentioned above, Russia has not been invited there. They ignore us not only because of loathing to see “dictator Putin” among the guests. With these celebrations, the West is further rewriting WWII history to exclude Russia from the list of victors over fascism.
It makes the Western stomachs rise that the true historical hero of Normandy celebrations, along with the USA and Great Britain, is Russia, being the Soviet Union’s legal successor, as it bore on its shoulders the entire brunt of defeating Nazi Germany. There would have been no success of Soviet soldiers in the eastern front, no defeat of the Germans in Stalingrad or the Kursk Bulge, no Operation Overlord that saw troops of the United States, Great Britain and Canada and other British dominions land in Normandy. The Western allies simply joined the already impending victory over German fascism predetermined by the Red Army by June 1944.
On May 31, Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said Russia had no plans of engaging in events marking the 80th anniversary of Allied landings in Normandy. This is understandable. Whom should we stand side by side, sit at the same table or raise our glasses with? With twerpy Macron? Or loony Biden? Or cryptophilous Russophobe King Charles III of the United Kingdom? Or German Chancellor Scholz, whose appetite for vengeance for the defeat of his grandfather is literally written all over his face? With all these figures who have declared war on Russia and are anxiously awaiting our demise? Dealing with them is utter self-disrespect. So, it’s not them who failed to invite us — it’s us who chose not to go there.
