A former US marine, Nadim Abu Rabeh, of Lebanese origin, who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, says the version of the latter's capture shown to the public was fully fabricated.
In real fact, Hussein was arrested on Friday, December 12, 2003, and not on Saturday, as reported by the US Army.
The former Iraqi president was found in a modest house in a small village near Tikrit, and not in an underground hole. During the arrest the Iraqi leader offered fierce resistance shooting at US soldiers from a second floor window. Only after he had been shouted at several times in Arabic saying there was no point in resisting, did he surrender. One US marine was killed in the exchange of fire.
"Later on a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well", the ex-marine said.
