A mass rally to mark the 60th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Hiroshima was held in the very center of the Italian capital, on the square before the Pantheon, 5 August. Italian committee "Terra e Pace" organized it.
Addressing the rally, committee president Atos De Luka said "the tragedy of Hiroshima should be remembered especially today, in this difficult year that the world is living through". Then a message from Italian President Carlo Champi was read.
"Hiroshima brought up in people a still stronger desire for peace and aversion towards weapons of mass destruction", the message said. Italian President urged that people should not forget Hiroshima's innocent victims.
