Hundreds of militia personnel and troops have been urgently moved to the Astrakhan Region. Investigators continue clearing up the causes of the mass clashes between the Chechens and the Kalmyks in the settlement of Yandyki. The Regional Public Prosecutor has taken the matter under his personal control.
Yesterday a mass scuffle took place between the Chechens and the Kalmyks in the settlement. About 300 people took part in the disorders. As a result of the incident, five people were hospitalized. Also, six houses were burned down, and dozens of cars damaged.
The Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case under the charge of "mass disorders".
According to the information of the regional administration, the trouble started after some inhabitants of the town of Lagan in Kalmykia had come to the settlement to take part in the funeral of a Kalmyk killed in a street fight. The disorders began after the funeral.
