Chinese builders want to erect, by the middle of the next week, a dam on the Amur in order to minimize the consequences of the chemical pollution of the river. A spokesman of the Chinese Water Resources Ministry says the construction has been agreed with the Russian side. The official admitted that the construction faces certain difficulties, as several days ago the engineers had to review the whole design.
The length of the structure was increased from 150 m to 410 m, the height from 1.7 m to 3.5 m. "The reason is the sharp rise of the water level in the Amur due to the discharge of a great quantity of water from the storage reservoirs for diluting the toxic leak", explained the ministry spokesman.
