The population of our planet has surpassed the 6.5 billion mark, say a team of demographer scientists working on UN commission.
A spokesman for the team disclosed that the "jubilee baby" had "most probably been born in Asia". Today 365,000 babies are being born in the world each day. Of these, 57 percent fall on Asian countries, 26 percent on Africa, 9 on Latin America, 5 on Europe and 3 on North America and Oceania. A yearly increase of the population is 75 million people.
The demographers believe the level of 7 billion people would be reached by 2012.
