V. Putin: \"Russia must become a world energy leader\"

AToday at an enlarged session of the Russian Security Council President Vladimir Putin said that Russia should become "a leaders in world power engineering and a trendsetter in energy innovations".

"We should think how we can make this branch of industry modern and promising, and not just pick at the earth, which we do, unfortunately, rather barbarically. Resources have to be developed on an innovative basis", emphasized the Russian leader.

According to V. Putin, to become a leader in world power engineering it is not enough to increase the volumes of energy resources production and export. The President stressed the necessity of developing new technologies in that field and finding modern forms of saving mineral resources and energy.

The Russian President believes that these developments "will become a powerful catalyst for modernizing and boosting the quality of the whole Russian economy".
