According to Russian Air Force Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Mikhailov, by 2010 the Air Force would get about 50 new helicopters Mi-28N "Night Hunter".
A press secretary of the Russian Defense Ministry revealed that yesterday the first serial specimen of combat helicopter Mi-28N "Night Hunter" was flown at the plant aerodrome of OAO "Rostvertol" company in Rostov-on-the-Don. It is the first helicopter of the batch ordered by the Defense Ministry.
The design development of Mi-28N was initiated in 1993 based on Mi-28, whose development program had earlier been closed. Mi-28N features an integrated complex of on-board equipment allowing for night flights to be conducted at the lowest altitudes.
The on-board equipment complex includes an all-round radar station. The helicopter is provided with a gun mount featuring a 30-mm automatic cannon, anti-tank guided missiles, unguided missile units, containers with mine-laying hardware and air-to-air guided missiles.
