Another girl has died of bird flu in the hospital of the town of Van in eastern Turkey. She became the third member of the same family to die of that disease. Last Sunday her brother died, and yesterday her elder sister. The children are supposed to have got infected from diseased birds when they were handling carcasses of dead chickens. According to the latest data, there are about 25 more suspected cases of bird flu in the Van hospital.
A team of World Health Organization experts arrived in Turkey today. Four dead pigeons had been found in Istanbul yesterday. The cause of their death will be established only after laboratory analyses, while the region where the dead pigeons were found had been immediately treated with disinfectants.
