January 18 a proposal was made in Russian State Duma to urge the people to economize on electric power consumption due to the severe frosts. Parliament vice-speaker from the Liberal-Democratic Party, Vladimir Zhirinovski, suggested that the Russian Prime Minister should urge the people to switch off their refrigerators and keep their victuals outside the window, switch off their computers and TV sets, and the men not to use their electric shavers.
Atop of that, the vice-speaker has proposed that Post No. 1 should be withdrawn from the Unknown Soldier's Tomb near the Kremlin wall. "Why must the soldiers freeze? They may get tuberculosis at the age of 40. What is the need to maintain that Post in such frosts?" said V. Zhirinovski.
