On January 23 Romanian president Trayan Besesku confirmed that his country was quitting the "Community of Democratic Choice" set up at the end of 2005, which included also Georgia, Ukraine, Poland and Baltic states. T. Besesku said the decision had been made because that organization was not mature enough to take "a constructive stance on the problems of the Black Sea region".
The Romanian president proposed that a forum of the Black Sea countries be held with Russian participation in Bucharest next spring entitled "For Dialog and Partnership". He stressed that "any attempt to isolate Russia on issues concerning problems of the Black Sea would be a political mistake".
