Danish newspaper "Jyllands Posten" that published cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad has apologized for offending Muslims across the world. An open letter of apologies signed by the newspaper's editor-in-chief was posted at its website late at night January 30. The identical letter was sent to Jordanian news agency "Petra".

"These cartoons were not in violation of Danish law but have irrefutably offended many Muslims, and for that we apologize", says the letter. The Danish newspaper had published 12 cartoons of the Prophet last September. In January the cartoons had been reprinted by two Norwegian newspapers causing a storm of indignation in Moslem states.

Last Monday armed extremists from the "Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades" – FATAH's paramilitary wing, who lost at the parliamentary election in Palestine last week, staged a demonstration in front of the EU Representative Office in Gaza. They shot in the air protesting against the publication of the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.
