Lebanon's interior minister Hassan Sabeh has resigned after failing to calm down riots sparked off by the publication of cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad in the European press.
As has been reported, protesters burned down the Danish embassy during mass rioting in Beirut. The two thousand plus personnel of law enforcement bodies, using tear gas and water cannons against the enraged crowd, could not contain the several thousand protesters.
One man died in the riots. He jumped out of the window trying to escape from the burning building. 174 people have been detained.
In Iraq, the government has announced that it was suspending all cooperation with Denmark.
