The Chechen government has ruled to suspend the activities of the "Danish Refugee Council" on republican territory. The decision is final and irreversible, says vice premier of the Chechen government Khalid Vaikhanov. He explained that "the suspension of the activities of the Danish Refugee Council on republican territory has been caused by the publication of the cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in the Danish press".
"We highly value the noble activity of humanitarian organization 'Danish Refugee Council', but the publication of the cartoons has caused a negative reaction all over the Moslem world and in particular in the Chechen Republic where an overwhelming majority of the population is Muslim", said the Chechen vice premier. Considering these circumstances and concerned about the security of foreigners in Chechnya, the government decided to suspend the activities of the "Danish Refugee Council" on republican territory, he added.
