Russia is in a position to fill up the vacuum that has formed in the Middle East after the collapse of the US policy, said deputy chairman of the HAMAS Political Bureau Dr. Musa Abu Marzuk in an interview to "Al-Jazeera" TV Channel.
"The failure of the US policy in the region is obvious. It is the war in Iraq, and inability of the US to cooperate with Syria, and now the victory of HAMAS at the Palestinian parliamentary election", said Marzuk.
"After the collapse of the US policy in the region a vacuum has formed, and this vacuum is to be filled up by other states. We believe that Russia is in a position to do that", he noted.
"We know that the Palestine problem is a key to all other problems of the Middle East. Having taken the initiative in respect of the Palestine problem, Russia stands to gain in the Middle Eastern region as a whole", emphasized the HAMAS official.
He said that the HAMAS leadership have not received as yet any official invitation to visit Moscow, "but are expecting to receive it shortly". HAMAS leader Ismail Hania said he "would be happy to visit Moscow".
