On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadi-Nejad made a speech before a capacity crowd at Tehran's main Azadi Square.
In his speech he said that Iran might review its attitude toward the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), if the West used the Treaty as a tool for depriving Tehran of its right to peaceful uses of atomic energy.
The Iranian president noted that up to date Iran's policy in the field of peaceful uses of nuclear energy had adhered to provisions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the NPT. However, "by its actions the West has undermined the prestige of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty", he said.
"The Iranian people will not surrender its rights and will not bow the West's threats", emphasized M. Ahmadi-Nejad.
