The Danish government does not think it fit to apologize for the publication of cartoons satirizing the Prophet Muhammad in the Danish press, says Danish foreign minister Per Stig Meller.
According to the minister, it makes no sense to apologize "for something you didn't do". Besides, in his opinion, nothing unlawful has happened, as no one has been indicted by any court for that incident.
A few days ago P.S. Meller said that Denmark provides freedom of speech for its citizens. "If someone feels aggrieved with the freedom of speech, he should file a lawsuit", said the Danish foreign minister.
As has been reported, in September of 2005 the Danish newspaper "Jyllands-Posten" published a series of 12 cartoons. One of them featured the Prophet Muhammad depicted as a terrorist in a turban nesting a bomb.
The cartoons had led to a boycott of Danish goods, mass demonstrations and threats against Danish organizations in Muslim countries.
