American human rights group "Human Rights First" has published a report claiming that 98 prisoners died in US jails in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2002. In 34 cases homicide has been confirmed or suspected as the cause of death. Nearly half of the 98 death cases have been left unprobed or the cause of the death has not been identified.
In dozens of documented cases gross irregularities during the investigation or reporting resulted in no one having been found responsible for the murders and other unexplained cases of death, the report says.
