Slobodan Miloshevich died in the prison of the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia on Saturday. Yugoslavia's ex-president died in his cell of heart attack, officials of the Tribunal claimed,
The Dutch police have opened an inquiry into the causes of S. Miloshevich's death. Today experts of the Hague Forensic Medicine Institute will perform an autopsy on the body of the Yugoslavian ex-president. On Belgrade's request, a Serbian expert will be present at the autopsy. Yesterday the Tribunal declined a request made by S. Miloshevich's lawyer to have the autopsy performed in Moscow.
A day before his death S. Miloshevich had written a letter to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claiming that there was a purposeful campaign underway to ruin his health. The ex-president informed the Russian Foreign Minister that he might be poisoned.
S. Miloshevich's brother, Borislav, has already put full blame for the Serbian leader's death on the Hague Tribunal.
For her turn, the Tribunal's chief prosecutor Carla Del Ponte has expressed regrets that now she could not have S. Miloshevich sentenced. In her opinion, the Yugoslav ex-president's death was unpleasant news to victims of crimes perpetrated in the former Yugoslavia.
The Serbian leader will possibly be buried in Moscow, but his daughter Maria is strongly opposed to that. She insists on her father's remains to be buried at a family cemetery in Montenegro. The Serbian Socialist Party, whose leader S. Miloshevich was, has proposed that he be buried at his home town of Pojarevac or in Belgrade at the memorial Heroes Alley.
