Another Big Russian Deal
A. Gaidamak, a Russian businessman, buys an influential French newspaper
An entrepreneur from Russia, Arkadi Gaidamak, has bought one of the most renowned and influential French newspapers - "France Soir". In recent years the newspaper has been experiencing grave financial problems. As a result, it was due for mandatory sale to repay its debts and might even be closed up.
A. Gaidamak is certain he would be able to revive the newspaper. "I'm sure it'll be good reading and a smashing success, just like any other business project I take on", said the Russian businessman.
However, the current owner of "France Soir" Rami Lakah and his attorney say they've never heard of the deal.
