Chairman of the Byelorussian KGB Stepan Sukhorenko has told a press conference that a coup was being prepared in the country.
"We do not encroach on the candidates' rights in any way, but we have to say that a coup is being prepared in the country under the guise of the elections. Preparations are underway not for peaceful protests, but rather for violent actions, with the use of explosives and incendiary bombs, aimed at spreading panic ".
According to Stepan Sukhorenko, funds are being smuggled in from abroad. "Certain individuals have been infiltrated into our country under the guise of tourists and sheltered at secret safe houses", said the KGB chairman.
He cited the recent seizure of fake exit-poll reports dated March 19, 2006. S. Sukhorenko noted that Georgian citizens are implicated in their fabrication, with active participation of employees of the Georgian embassies in Lithuania and Ukraine.
