Naming a new US military base in Poland after American President Donald Trump is humiliating and risky, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said on Thursday.
"It’s beyond any respect. In my opinion, a proposal to name it [the military base under incumbent US President Donald Trump] 'Fort Trump' is a demonstration of humiliation," Poland’s RMF24 radio broadcaster quoted Sikorski as saying.
"On the other hand, it is risky," Sikorski stated, adding that he would have rather named the new military base "after [Ronald] Reagan," the 40th president of the United States.
On June 3, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz presented US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth with an official proposal to open a new permanent base for US troops in Poland.
The cost of building the military base that may house roughly 5,000 military personnel could amount to more than 10 billion Zlotys (about $2.6 billion).
