Starting from today, February 21, a new military-patriotic TV Channel, the "Star", has begun routine broadcasting in Russia. As yet, it is broadcasting in a test mode to Moscow and the Moscow Region on frequency 57 of the decimetric wave band. However, it is planned to extend its coverage to the 51 Russian regions, which would allow it to get the status of a federal TV channel.
The "Star" has been launched based on the Central TV and Radio Studio of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The channel is supposed to broadcast programs and films of the patriotic orientation.
According to Russian Minister of Defense Sergei Ivanov, the "Star" would become a channel for "real men". The Minister also said that apart from the State, private investors could also join in the "Star" capital, but the controlling packet of shares would remain with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The presentation of the new TV Channel is due to take place today at the "Ostankino" TV Center.
