As promised, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSS) has paid out $10 million for the information that led to locating and destroying Chechen terrorist leader Aslan Maskhadov.
A spokesman of the FSS PR Center disclosed that some time ago certain citizens had approached the FSS and supplied the required information. "This helped us to identify precisely Maskhadov's whereabouts and successfully conduct the special operation ", stated the spokesman.
"The said citizens have received the bounty in full. If required, they will get assistance in moving to another region of Russia or one of the Moslem countries", the FSS spokesman noted.
Aslan Maskhadov had been liquidated by FSS crack troops last March 8 in the course of a special operation in the village of Tolstoi-Yurt in Chechnya.
The FSS spokesman confirmed his department's willingness to pay out bounty in the future to those citizens who supply reliable the information on the whereabouts and activities of terrorist chieftains. The FSS will also assure personal safety of such citizens.
The FSS had offered bounty for information on Maskhadov's and Basayev's whereabouts in the fall of 2004.
