Zacarias Moussaoui, a Frenchman of Moroccan origin, may be sentenced to death. He has been charged with conspiring to commit acts of terror, planning to hijack a plane, preparing to murder government officials, to use weapons of mass destruction, and demolish state property. Moussaoui has already pleaded guilty to all the six counts of the indictment.
However, according to news reports, the accused declared that he had not participated directly in the series of the terror attacks against the USA on September 11, 2001. Moussaoui said that he had been part of a wider conspiracy. Actually he was involved in a plot to hijack a plane for crashing it the US president's residence.
Moussaoui is the only terrorist linked to al-Qaeda to have been put on trial in connection with the 9/11 attacks.
