August 8, a Polish delegation headed by deputy chairman of the European Parliament, Ya. Sariush-Volski, was denied, without explanation, entry to Byelorussia. Officials of the border control service said that "in respect of the Polish citizens our border control personnel strictly followed the laws currently in force".
The Polish parliamentarians intended to visit the town of Grodno to get firsthand information on the situation around the public organization "Union of Poles in Byelorussia", and also to meet some of the leaders of the Byelorussian opposition.
