Two zinc-coated buckets with wires were found in a heap of rubbish near the old building of the House of Culture at 22.55 last night, he said.
Army engineers called to the site confirmed that the find was an explosive device of great power. The bomb was made out of niter filled with bolts, nuts and other lethal fragments held together by sealing foam.
The explosive device was transported to an ordnance yard and destroyed.
