According to Col.Gen. Arkadi Yedelev, Chief of the Regional Operational Staff for the Anti-Terrorist Operation in the Northern Caucasus, since the beginning of this year the federal forces have been dealing telling blows to bandit formations in the zone of the anti-terrorist operation.
"During the 8 months of this year 231 gunmen have been killed in the course of pin-point and special operations in the zone of the anti-terrorist operation", said A. Yedelev. Among the liquidated terrorists are 6 leaders of the upper echelon, 13 heads of bandit formations and 23 "emirs" of various levels.
During the said period the law enforcement authorities arrested, on suspicion of criminal involvement, 890 members of illegal armed formations, added A. Yedelev.
