STRATFOR: Terrorists Planned a Remake of "11/9" in Nalchik

Experts of the STRATFOR analytic center in the USA, which is believed to have close ties with the intelligence services, came to the conclusion that on October 13 the Russian special services had foiled a large-scale terrorist attack in Nalchik.

A STRATFOR report analyzing the events in Nalchik has been based on the center's own sources of information. The main conclusion of the American experts is this: "In Nalchik the Russian special services foiled a terrorist attack comparable in magnitude to the suicide attack on New York and Washington on September 11, 2001".

According to STRATFOR, on October 17 a troop of over 700 gunmen were to seize the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria. The main objective of the attack would be the airport. The plan was to seize and fly at least five airliners, and crash them into the Kremlin or the White House in Moscow, the nuclear power station in the Saratov Region, the railway station in Rostov-on-the-Don and one of the hydroelectric power stations on the Volga.
