November 16 the Pentagon released data showing a sharp raise in US casualties in Iraq among officers. Thus, over the last three weeks 13 officers ranking from lieutenant to colonel died in Iraq, which made 22 percent of all servicemen killed during that period.
All-in-all 2076 US servicemen, including 216 officers, died in Iraq from March 2003 to November 16, 2005. The heaviest losses were among officers of the platoon-company level: 72 captains and 75 lieutenants.
