The Russian military-political leadership may call into question the utility of the adapted version of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces (CAF) in Europe, if NATO member countries continue to shun its ratification, says Sergei Ivanov, Russian Vice-Premier and Minister of Defense.
"With the US and NATO infrastructure expanding toward Russian borders, the future of the CAF Treaty is also coming into question. Everybody has signed the Treaty, but only four countries, including Russia, have ratified it. If the other signatories fail to ratify the Treaty, a question arises – who needs such a mechanism providing for transparency of military activities on territory of Greater Europe", argued the Minister of Defense.
