The leadership of the European Union believes the talks on the transit and supply of natural gas from Russia to Ukraine is a question of their bilateral relations, said a spokesman for the EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs.
"Nevertheless, we follow the developments closely", he added. The EU Commission hopes the situation would not have any negative effect on the delivery of Russian gas to Europe.
A similar statement was made by the US State Department. "The supply of Russian gas to Ukraine is an issue that Moscow and Kiev have to solve between themselves", official spokesman of the State Department Sean McCormac told journalists.
