Natalia Vitrenko's bloc "Popular Opposition", which, according to preliminary voting results, is only 0.07 percent short of the figure needed for admission to Supreme Rada (parliament), has begun an indefinite picketing of the building of Ukraine's Central Electoral Committee (CEC).

The organizers of the action say "the picketing is held in protest against the falsification of election results during the counting of ballots".

About 50 red-and-blue tents have been set up in front of the CEC building. Earlier, after the results of the election had been made public, N. Vitrenko had said that her supporters would insist on recounting the votes because of the massive irregularities observed during the election.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian President's press service announced that V. Yushchenko had directed CEC chairman Yaroslav Davidovich to carefully consider the request made by four parties and blocs to recount the vote at all polling stations and take reactive measures in strict compliance with law.

Yesterday such a request was signed by leaders of the Popular-Democratic bloc, the Pora-PRP bloc, Litvin's popular bloc and the "Veche" Party. They called on the President "to act as a guarantor of citizens' constitutional rights and freedoms and of democracy in Ukraine".
