The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a report saying that a global spread of the H5N1 virus, commonly known as "bird flue", may claim from 5 to 150 million human lives.
WHO spokesman David Nabarro says the development of the situation depends on how mankind will handle the spread of bird flue in Asia.
Recently new outbreaks of the disease were reported, this time in Indonesia.
Since the bird flue virus was first discovered in 2003, 60 people died of the disease in the world, with economic damages running into several billion dollars.
